Extractions & Wisdom Teeth
Our dentists at Robie Street Dental Centre in Halifax perform tooth extractions and wisdom teeth removal when a tooth cannot be preserved or is causing oral health issues.
What is a Tooth Extraction?
Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from it's socket in your jaw bone. At Robie Street Dental Centre, our dentists are careful to perform tooth extraction procedures only when a less invasive option would not be effective.
Common reasons for pulling a tooth include excessive tooth damage and problematic wisdom teeth. Teeth are also sometimes pulled to prepare for other dental procedures.
Wisdom Tooth Removal
Wisdom teeth are your last set of molars to erupt into the back corners of an adult mouth. They usually do so between the ages of 17 and 25.
This third set of teeth isn't always properly functional. They can crowd out other teeth as the develop and create oral hygiene problems. In these cases, your dentist may recommend removing them.
Repairing Excessive Damage
In most instances, your dentist will have to work to save a tooth whenever it is possible. However, there are circumstances where injury, gum disease and excessive decay which will necessitate extraction.
If you have a damaged tooth that needs to be extracted, your dentist will discuss tooth replacement options with you, which may include dental bridges, dental crowns, and dentures.
